Major Washington DC Fine Art Gallery to Represent Works of Pittsburgh Oil Painter R. Jean Vallieres (Pittsburgh, PA/ Washington DC) — The Susan Calloway Fine Arts Gallery of Wisconsin Avenue, Georgetown, Washington, DC has entered into a formal agreement to represent the oil paintings of Pittsburgh painter R. Jean Vallieres throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area. Vallieres’ landscape paintings, ranging in size from 42 x 60 inches to 24 x 20 inches are now on display at the gallery. Over the past several years Vallieres has rapidly gained notice of the art world for his landscape and portrait paintings, which have been quietly acquired by fine art galleries in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Florida, as well as art patrons throughout the eastern United States and the United Kingdom. Vallieres has agreed to initially exhibit five of his paintings at the Georgetown gallery. Vallieres, who works exclusively with oils and canvas, briefly studied the works of the great masters in Paris and London and other noted international museums, but is almost entirely self-taught. He has quickly acquired the reputation as one of the most promising artists in the eastern US. His works have this year appeared leading international art magazines. Art Business News proclaims his works “absolutely incredible” and goes on to state that Mr. Vallieres “has amazing talent.” One of his paintings appeared in the August 2005 issue of that magazine. The Merrick Museum of New Brighton, PA recently hosted a solo exhibit of his paintings that received highly favorable review. The museum has acquired several of the artist’s painting for their private collection. A native New Englander – apparent in several of his works, and eldest of six children of a French family, having grown up in a mill town along the Blackstone River, he began painting at age thirteen. John’s [he prefers “John” to ‘Jean’] works demonstrate an ever increasing mastery of medium and technique; convey meaning, immediacy and depth. The value of his canvases continues to remain their capacity to strike both personal and universal chords, appealing to human emotion, memory, imagination and aesthetic feelings. At the current rate of request for his canvases, and interests in his prints, the artist believes that “In the foreseeable future my works will be represented in most of the better fine art galleries in the United States; then it will only be a matter of my ability to meet demand.” Several of his earlier as well as recent paintings are now on display in his local area: the Borelli-Edwards Gallery, PA located in the north hills area, and Renaissance Gallery located in the Mount Lebanon area of Pittsburgh PA. Prints of his original oil paintings are now being produced in limited numbers by Hungarian master print makers Patho and Patho of Pittsburgh, PA and have recently gone on display at Wexford Art Gallery, Wexford, PA, Renaissance Gallery, and galleries in Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Vallieres goes on to state: “I am so pleased to be able to provide limited edition prints of my original paintings, many having been acquired by more wealthy patrons, so they can be enjoyed by art patrons who would not be able to afford the original works. Art is simply for everyone to enjoy and be enriched by.” Two of his religious portraitures can be viewed at Trinity Cathedral, and Saint Paul Cathedral. Many of his paintings have begun to appear in office buildings and restaurants in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Two of Mr. Vallieres recently completed large portraitures will be displayed for the first time this week at newly opened Cefalo’s Nightclub and Restaurant, Washington Ave, Carnegie, PA, where they will remain on display for public viewing for an indefinite period. The Susan Calloway Fine Arts Gallery, 1643 Wisconsin Avenue NW, features a large collection of American and European oil paintings by national and international artists, as well as a carefully chosen selection of 17th -19th Century prints.
